Alegría knocks off Chapaleufú 15-11 in Tortugas Open

Alegria (Magoo Laprida, Hilario Ulloa, Lucas Monteverde and Fred Mannix) bounced back from their loss to Ellerstina in the Jockey Club final by racing past Chapaleufú (Pepe Heguy, Nachi Heguy, Bautista Heguy and Eduardo Heguy)15-11 in the opening match of the 2015 Tortugas Open at the Tortugas Country Club in Argentina.

The two teams played one another evenly through the first two chukkers, tying each other 1-1 in the first and 3-3 after the second chukker. Alegria got back to back goals from Lucas Monteverde in the third period as Alegria outscored Chapaleufú four goals to one to take a three goal, 7-4 lead after the third.

Nachi Heguy showed flashes of his days as a 10-goaler as he rang up five goals over the fourth and fifth chukkers, and cutting the Alegria lead to a single goal, 10-9, but Alegria didn’t break.

Alegria put up three goals in the sixth while holding Chapaleufú to a single goal. With one chukker remaining in regulation play, Alegria was in control of a 13-10 lead.

Fred Mannix closed out the game with a pair of penalty goals with Chapaleufú scoring a token goal in the 15-11 loss.

Nachi Heguy led all scoring with seven goals (five on penalty conversions); Eduardo Heguy added two penalty goals and Pepe Heguy and Bautista Heguy scored single goals in a losing effort. A balanced Alegria attack saw team captain Fred Mannix score six times (twice on penalty shots). Magoo Laprida added four goals; Hilario Ulloa scored twice and Lucas Monteverde was credited with two goals in the victory.

Tortugas Open play continues on Wednesday, September 30th when La Aguada (Agustín Merlos, Guillermo Terrera, Sapo Caset and Ignacio Novillo Astrada) faces La Aguada/ Las Monjitas (Ignacio Toccalino, Pite Merlos, Eduardo N. Astrada Jr. and Alejandro Novillo Astrada).
