Apes Hill, who have already qualified for the quarter finals, took a narrow 11-10 win over Sifani in today’s match of the Jaeger-LeCoultre British Gold Cup on Brooks Field.
The first half was a very even contest, with many ties and slight advantages for Apes Hill. The winners of the Warwickshire Cup took off in the second half, gaining a 6-4 lead by the end of the fourth chukka.
Mark Tomlinson’s goals widened Apes Hill’s lead to 9-5 in the fifth, but Sifani cut the margin to two goals after a penalty conversion by Agustín Merlos and a field goal by Malcolm Borwick. A very determined Sifani put enough pressure to outscore Apes Hill 3-2 in the last chukka, but luck was on Apes Hill’s side.
The Gold Cup will continue on Tuesday July 7:
2pm: King Power Foxes vs. Salkeld (L2)
4pm: El Remanso vs. Talandracas (L1)
