Hurlingham Polo Association announces big names set to play
The England longlist has been released for the 2015 Royal Salute Coronation Cup. The team will face South America, the strongest polo region in the world, on Saturday 25 July at Guards Polo Club in Windsor Great Park.
The final England line-up will be selected from the following members:
James Beim (7)
Luke Tomlinson (7)
Max Charlton (7)
James Harper (6)
Mark Tomlinson (6)
Richard, the Earl of Tyrone (6)
Jack Richardson (6)
This selection contains a few players who have already played for England this year. Mark Tomlinson Captained England to victory over Ireland in the Gigaset International at Beaufort, while Max Charlton, James Beim and James Harper formed the bulk of the winning English team who beat The Americas 6-3 at the St. Regis International in May. At this stage, England is promised a solid line-up for the final team.
The Coronation Cup itself was presented by the Ranelagh Club in 1911 to commemorate King George V’s coronation. The cup cost £250 at the time, a staggering sum, and was won in its inaugural year by the Indian P.A. Team. The tournament appeared in its current international incarnation in 1971, and ever since has been an annual match between England and various overseas challengers.
