Palm Beach Polo Update

ylThe Ylvisaker Memorial Cup continues at International Polo Club

Melissa Ganzi’s FlexJet and Jerome Wirth’s Enigma have celebrated wins in their most recent league games of The Ylvisaker Memorial Cup at International Polo Club Palm Beach. On Wednesday, FlexJet (Melissa Ganzi, Cody Ellis, Miguel Novillo Astrada and Rodrigo Andrade) recovered from a slow first chukka to get into a close game against Palm Beach Illustrated (Tommy Collingwood, Jared Zenni, Facundo Obregon and Michel Dorignac). FlexJet led at half-time with a score of 8-6, but Palm Beach Illustrated kept them on their toes, especially in the fifth when the scores tied at 9-9 and then 10-10. Despite further goals apiece in the last chukka and Palm Beach Illustrated trying desperately to close the gap, it was the young Cody Ellis who scored the final goal of the game on a pass from Ganzi for a 13-11 victory.
Thursday’s game saw Enigma (Jerome Wirth, Jeff Hall, Matias MacDonough and Carlucho Arellano) deliver a decisive blow to Audi (Marc Ganzi, Lucas Lalor, Nic Roldan and Fred Mannix). Three field goals and a penalty converted by Carlucho Arellano took Enigma well into the lead after the first chukka, with MacDonough capitalising on this scoreline by securing a further two goals in the second. Fortunately for the Audi line-up Lucas Lalor and Fred Mannix managed to slot a goal apiece through the posts to take the score to 6-2 going into the third. Nic Roldan, who scored seven of his team’s eventual goals, tried to inspire the Audi side, displaying great stick work and cutting his way through the Enigma defence. Sadly, it was not Audi’s day and Enigma delivered blow after blow, eventually finishing the match with the scoreboard reading 16-10.
Polo continues today with CT Energia versus Valiente in the morning. Casablanca then faces Tonkawa whilst Villa Del Lago will meet Gateway Merchants, featuring a different line-up after Luis Escobar’s fall last weekend. Polo Times understands he is doing well after being closely monitored in hospital. The final match of the day will be between Coca Cola and Lucchese.
