RoR Racing to Polo Challenge winners announced
Alan Kent, the former England International player based near Cowdray, won a total of £2,000 in prize money at The RoR Racing to Polo Challenge on Monday 7 September at The Royal County of Berkshire Polo Club.
Amongst entries from many other owners and trainers, Alan was delighted to receive the £1,500 prize for winning and also taking second place with his retrained polo ponies in the five-year-olds and upwards section of the RoR Racing to Polo Challenge Class. He was also awarded the £500 bonus prize for the best six-year-old and upwards entry, to add to his prize pot.
Alan is a great supporter of the work of the RoR scheme and told Polo Times, “It really is a great initiative by RoR to run the Challenge and it’s a shame that more people don’t take it up. It’s interesting to see other thoroughbreds and see how they are doing and to learn from other horses that are doing well. For me winning was the icing on the cake!”
Alan’s five-year-old ex-racehorse, Medici Dancer, won the £1,500 first prize and was crowned Champion, while his other charge, Molly Mylenis, took second place. Alex Mains rode both ponies. Medici Dancer ran 15 times on the flat and won a race at Redcar during a two-year racing career in training with Tim Easterby. Molly Mylenis was also a winning two-year-old, with a total of 16 runs for trainer David Evans.
Other winners at the RoR Racing to Polo Challenge included Wesie’s Dream, a three-year-old-filly owned and ridden by Ed Hitchman (pictured), who ran her last race in December 2014, and Anya’s Angel, winner of the four-year-old section, owned and ridden by Josh Clover. Di Arbuthnot, RoR Chief Executive said, “RoR hopes that in future years the Challenge will continue to grow in popularity, providing a focus for owners and riders to compete with their former racehorses.”
