In a charity fund raising game, the Department of Transport team led by Sheikha Maitha bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum defeated the Ghantoot Polo Team by 6-5 at the Ghantoot Racing & Polo Club in Abu Dhabi.
Held under the patronage of HH Sheikh Falah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, chairman of the club, the four chukkas Al Amal Polo Day Exhibition Match 2015 was held to support the Al Ain Rehabilitation and Care Centre for Children with special needs.
The DOT team lead by Sheikha Maitha began on a strong note ending the first chukka 2-1 with the team’s top scorer Ahmed Al Nuaimi scoring two goals, while Ahmed Bin Desmal of Ghantoot Polo team reduced the margin.
The Department of Transport team continued the winning streak in the following chukka, with Sheikha Maitha and Ernesto Trotz scoring one goal each, ending the second chukka with a 4-1 lead. The Ghantoot team bounced back as Ali Al Marri and top Argentinean player Ramiro Zavaleta put a good performance to cut the lead by 2 goals, but Faris Al Yabhouni of team Department of Transport helped pull one back at the end of the third chukka.
The closest contest was in the final chukka when Al Marri struck twice to bring parity, but Al Nuaimi of team Department of Transport scored for the third time, leading his team to victory. Ghantoot’s Al Marri too scored his third goal, with the match ending 6-5 in favour of team Department of Transport. Fahad Al Qubaisi was the other team member of the Ghantoot side.
Saeed Bin Houfan Al Mansouri, Vice President of the Ghantoot Racing & Polo Club among other dignitaries gave away the awards to the teams.
