The construction works for the Snow Polo World Cup on the frozen lake of St. Moritz have begun. The way is paved for this year’s edition of the world’s most famous snow polo tournament end January.
The build-up of the ice on the lake of St. Moritz had been somewhat due to warmish temperatures in the last few weeks. Nevertheless, the ice is of a good quality and has been growing steadily. On Monday and Tuesday, new measurements and stress tests were conducted. They showed that the ice will stand the weights during the construction process.
On Wednesday morning, work started to put up the infrastructure on the lake. Specialists, mandated by the city’s “Lake Infra” company, began to build tent floors, tents, grand stands and supply lines. Regarding the preparation of the polo field, the organisers will decide by the end of this week whether machine-made snow will have to be added to the snow expected to be falling later this week.
Four “high goal” teams from Australia, Ireland, Italy and Switzerland will compete at the Snow Polo World Cup St. Moritz between 30 January and 1st February 2015.
