British Beach Polo Championships

lowresbeachThe Final Countdown to Sandpolo Begins
With less than two weeks until this year’s British Beach Polo Championships, Jodie Kidd visited Sandbanks to kick off the countdown to the UK ‘s biggest beach polo event. Jodie enjoyed ride along the beach with Welsh team Captain Ricky Cooper before commenting, “You simply cannot beat the polo at Sandbanks, it gathers some of the world’s top polo players together on a wonderful blue flag beach in July for some exceptional polo, a great party atmosphere and a fashionable crowd dancing to top DJ’s on the beach.”

The blue flag beach of Sandbanks will be transformed for two days of polo and parties on Friday 8 and Saturday 9 July. Four teams will be competing for the title this year, which include an array of polo players from Jamie Morrison, Chairman of The Royal County of Berkshire Polo Club, Selby Williamson, Captain of South Africa Polo and Ricky Cooper the Welsh Team Captain at the Championships. The event will also be showcasing a busy youth orientated match schedule with two exhibition matches from the Pony Club as well as The University Challenge match with a town vs gown theme, which will see Oxford University take on their arch rivals Oxford Brookes and Exeter University.

As always when there’s a break from the polo there will be International Women’s Beach Volleyball with England taking on Poland, and the classic Pony vs 4×4 Charity race; this year in aid of The John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation. With a brand new site layout for all the guests to enjoy there will be many who stay on for the evening parties. Saturday night will be headlined by Radio One DJ Trevor Nelson and both nights feature an 80’s themed disco party running alongside the main entertainment for those who want to go back in time.
