Led by Pablo Mac Donough, 10-goal superstar and winner of three consecutive Argentine Triple Crowns with La Dolfina, Zedan found their momentum and display their best polo. Following two tied chukkas, Zedan took control of the match, taking wide advantages, and ultimately winning the game.
Zedan’s Martin Gándara was the top scorer, with four goals. Alejandro Novillo Astrada, Jota Chavanne and Isidro Strada scored one goal apiece for Mahra.
Score Zedan: 1-0, 2-1, 4-1, 6-2, 8-3
Next games: Monday January 25
2pm: UAE vs. Mahra
4pm: Habtoor vs. Bin Drai
Amr Zedan: It certainly feels good to start with a win. The horses are lighter than they were in the semifinals of the President’s Cup. The boys are amazing as well – Pablo, Martín and Pelayo – we’re happy to be back.
We’re stay focused during every game; this is a challenge and every team is very good. Everybody has a chance to win, so the point is to take everything step by step.
This is the good thing about the tournament – the teams are very balanced and anything can happen. So our challenge is try to win and claim the trophy.
