Newport Polo has announced they have added an expanded lesson schedule for group polo instruction to meet the increased demand this summer.
Veteran instructor Ted Torrey will come onboard to instruct weekly classes 4 days per week with an excellent string of additional horses.
Torrey is a third generation horse trainer with a competitive background in three-day eventing. Ted was long-listed on the US Equestrian Team and competed internationally for several years. He came to Glen Farm to train riders & horses in 1994 and got hooked on polo. Ted has competed with Newport Polo for 20 years and traveled with the team to Ireland, France, England and Jamaica. He has a long history with the US Polo Associations Interscholastic and Intercollegiate polo programs and has coached several students who have achieved national championships and player of the year recognition. He directed Valley Forge Military Polo, Naval War College Polo and founded the Roger Williams Polo Team. He lives in Portsmouth with his wife Bridget and daughters, Teghan and Piper.

Polo lessons are taught in group classes of up to 8 adult participants, as well as an interscholastic program for boys & girls in grades 8-12. Classes are offered on Wednesday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday, by reservation. Classes continue in Autumn, including tournaments for advanced participants, and team competition for interscholastic players.
Newport Polo’s instructors include world champion John Wigdahl,certified instructor Dan Keating, and certified umpire and former national interscholastic player Minnie Keating. Lesson horses are of the finest thoroughbred caliber & training, and professional grade polo equipment is provided.
