Palm Beach Equine Ousts Goose Creek For Limited Edition 12-Goal Series Crown

Podio-Limited-Edition-2016A combined eight goals from Ezequiel Zubiaurre and Gringo Colombres lifted Palm Beach Equine (Agustin Arellano, Ezequiel Zubiaurre, Gringo Colombres and Scott Swerdlin) to an 8-7 win over defending champion Goose Creek (Maureen Brennan, Marc Ganzi, Juan Bollini Jr. and Mariano Gonzalez) in the final of the 2016 Limited Edition12-goal Series at the Grand Champions Polo Club Saturday afternoon.
Ezequiel Zubiaurre scored the first goal of the game as Palm Beach Equine jumped out to an early 1-0 lead. Goose Creek responded with a pair of 60-yard penalty conversions from Mariano Gonzalez. At the end of the first chukker it was Goose Creek with the 2-1 edge.
Second period action saw Zubiaurre add two goals from the field. Gonzalez scored on a 40-yard penalty shot for Goose Creek, but when the chukker ended it was all even at 3-3.
The two teams battled fiercely through a scoreless third chukker. Both defenses played solidly and neither got into foul trouble. At the end of the first half it remained deadlocked at 3-3.
Gonzalez scored his fourth goal of the game as the second half got underway, breaking the tie and giving the lead to Goose Creek, 4-3. Palm Beach Equine responded with a 40-yard penalty goal from Gringo Colombres that leveled the score at 4-4 to end the chukker.
Consecutive fifth chukker goals from Colombres and Zubiaurre had Palm Beach Equine in front by two goals, 6-4. Gonzalez countered with a 60-yard penalty shot for a goal, 6-5. Colombres scored the final goal of the period, giving Palm Beach Equine the two goal, 7-5 advantage with one chukker left to play.
Both defenses were at their best in the final chukker of the match with neither team being able to successfully mount an effective offensive attack. Zubiaurre connected on a 40-yard penalty shot for a goal and a three goals lead, 8-5. Goose Creek fought to get back into the game. Penalty conversions from Gonzalez from the 30-yard line and the 60-yard line cut the Palm Beach Equine lead to a single goal, 8-7, but that was as close as they got. The final horn sounded with Palm Beach Equine celebrating the 8-7 victory.
Zubiaurre set the pace for the Palm Beach Equine attack with five goals (one on a penalty conversion). Colombres added the other three goals for the win. Gonzalez scored all seven of his goals on penalty shots.
