On 12 May 2016, international teams, including polo players from seven different countries, will come to Rovinj, to fight for the first Rovinj Beach Polo Cup until 15 May. Rovinj is a city in Croatia located on the western coast of the Istrian peninsula, idyllic situated on the north Adriatic Sea. For the tournament a complete new polo arena of 70×40 metres has been built directly at the beach of Rovinj.
Uwe Zimmermann (President Beach Polo Rovinj) and his international team are responsible for the organisation of the tournament. About 3,000 spectators are expected to come and witness the fast-paced polo matches at the beach of Rovinj. The teams are supported by the sponsors Adris, Heineken, Jamnica (Agrokor) and Tagheuer.
The VIP tent, which is located next to the polo field, will provide enough space for 1,000 invited guests per day. Many renowned faces from economics, politics and culture are expected to visit the event, such as Ivana Trump, Bruce Colley, Preisdent of the Mashomack Polo Club in the US, Enno v. Ruffin, President of the Poloclub Gut Basthorst, Matthias Ludwig, organiser of the beach polo tournament in Warnemünde, Sam Katiela, organiser of the beach polo tournament in Dubai, Lothar Matthäus and his family, the mayor of Rovinj and the Governor of Istria. Umpire will be Marc Holmes and the matches will be commentated by Chris Hyde. Maximilian Zimmermann will be responsible for timekeeping and scoreboard.
The tournament starts on 12 May 2016 with a Welcome Party on the super yacht by Philipp Zepter at the port of Rovinj, including all players and sponsors. On the following day the first polo matches are held, which are open to public viewing. The mayor of Rovinj will throw in the first match ball and thus will open the tournament. The evening concludes with an elegant gala dinner at the former tobacco factory in Rovinj.
14 May begins with a parade of the players and their horses through the centre of Rovinj, accompanied by a number of limousines and cars by Bentley Wien. In the afternoon more polo matches will be held at the polo arena at the beach of Rovinj. On Sunday midday the final matches will be held, followed by the presentation of the Tiffany trophies and prices to the players. On Sunday evening at the close of the first Beach Polo Cup in Rovinj, a Farewell Party will be organised at the super yacht called “JoyMe” by Philip Zepter. All teams will be equipped with clothes by exclusive supplier La Martina. Furthermore, there will be a shopping tent by La Martina. Sustenance will be provided by the catering of te Maistra group, of which the 5-star Hotel Lone is also part of.
