The 2016 season at Polo Club Saint-Tropez was launched on Sunday, 15 May 2016, when the Polo Club hosted the first games of the season with four international 6-10 goal teams fighting for the Coupe de L’Hippocampe 2016, accompanied by bright sunshine.
The Polo Club opened its doors by welcoming VIPs and visitors on the Club Terraces. The Grand Opening was the opportunity to discover the polo club’s new restaurant POLO 1999 and its Peruvian and Argentine cuisine in a festive atmosphere with an equestrian show and live music after the awards ceremony.
The first match was fiercely competitive between the Polo 1999 team and the El Porteno Milan Polo Club. Both teams took turns his head to the score board without being able to tie by posting a final score of 5-5.
For the final Corinne Schuler team was mauled early in the game by the team of F Polo Team, but some great opportunities in the last period have enabled them to reply with a final result of 6-4 for F Polo Team. The Mayor of Gassin, Anne-Marie Waniart, presented the “Coupe de l’Hippocampe”.
2016: The end of a new phase of works
Under the leadership of its new owner, polo enthusiast, Mr Alshair Fiyaz, the Polo Club Saint-Tropez is set to become a reference internationally and aims to be in the top five polo clubs worldwide. Indeed, his plans for the eco-friendly Equestrian Centre of Gassin are sufficient in themselves to demonstrate the extent of his ambitions for the Club.
The first phase of work has been devoted to creating the infrastructure necessary for high level polo tournaments and for hosting players and staff in the best conditions: construction of new high quality fields in Tifton, new stables, an indoor arena and accommodation units for players and grooms.
This season, a new phase of work has been completed with the construction of a 1400 square metres Club House which meets the new owner’s requirements for the most welcoming, luxurious and sporty of venues encompassing all the services required by an international polo clientele: gym, sauna, steam room and even cryotherapy.
