From Wednesday, June 27th, the eyes of the polo world will focus on Santa María Polo Club as the 45th edition of the Torneo Internacional Indi de Polo hosted by La Zagaleta kicks off, and will be extended until August 28th.
The tournament starts on Wednesday for the low goal category, one of the three competition levels that the traditional Torneo Internacional organized by Santa María Polo Club offers.
The 45° Torneo Internacional Indi de Polo hosted by La Zagaleta is conformed by 8 titles: in the high goal category, the three will be the Cartier Gold Cup, the Casa de Campo Silver Cup and the subsidiary finals of the Silver Cup, the Maserati Bronze Cup.
In these three competitions, six of the ten best players in the world will participate for the coveted trophies. Additionally, in the low and medium goal categories, there will be a total of five titles, sponsored by Aerolineas Argentinas and Isolas 1892.
Adolfo Cambiaso, Facundo Pieres, Pablo Mac Donough, Juan Martín Nero, David Stirling Jr and Nicolás Pieres will be competing on teams Dubai, Brunei, Lechuza Caracas, Ayala Polo Team and Dos Lunas A&G Banca Privada on the high goal level.
Low goal inaugurates the Torneo Internacional
This year the Tournament commence with the low goal category. This will take place on Wednesday in the Puente de Hierro fields with the first games of the Copa de Bronce Isolas 1892. From 11 am, and in two fields simultaneously, Las Aguilas vs Chester Race Course and Jolly Rogers vs Bayswater will compete against each other, while later on at 12:15 pm, also simultaneously, the games between La Clarita vs. Sotovila and Valdeparras vs Lechuza John Smith will be played.
Top notch premiere
The high goal category will kick off on Thursday with the first day of the Copa de Plata Casa de Campo in the Los Pinos fields, the main site of the Torneo Internacional Indi de Polo hosted by La Zagaleta. Dubai, the reigning champion with Adolfo Cambiaso once again in the lead of the team of the patron Rashid Albwardy will meet Bahar Jefri’s Brunei team that counts with the deadly duo of Pablo Mac Donough and David Stirling Jr. in the team. This match will take place at 7 pm in the Los Pinos Field 4.
