Zacara and Clarke & Green scored opening wins in the second day of the Gold Cup. Lyndon Lea’s foursome took an impressive 14-5 victory over RH, while newcomers Clarke & Green defeated Apes Hill 9-6.
RH opened the score with a goal from Nico Pieres, but Zacara replied quickly; Pablo MacDonough, Lucas Monteverde and Tom Brodie scored to give Zacara a 3-1 advantage by the end of the first chukka.
Zacara continued to dominate the game; led by a brilliant MacDonough, Zacara showed no mercy and reached half time with a commanding 7-1 lead.
It seemed that Lyndon and his boys were too much for RH, despite the powerful combination of Nico Pieres and Rodrigo Ribeiro de Andrade. RH’s efforts didn’t pay off; with only one chukka remaining, Zacara had gained an impressive 12-3 advantage.
RH opened the last chukka with a couple of goals, but it was too late. Zacara scored twice to seal the final 14-5 win.
Apes Hill had a 1-0 lead in the first chukka, but Clarke & Green managed to make a comeback and take control of the match to make it 5-2 at half time.
Nick Clarke’s foursome managed to widen their advantage in the following chukkas – they were leading by five goals in the fifth. But Apes Hill battled back in the last and cut the margin down to two goals (6-8). However, it was not enough – Clarke & Green scored once again to secure their debut victory.
The Gold Cup will continue on Wednesday June 23 at Ambersham.
