The stars return to St. Moritz

With still four months to go until the tournament, the four teams of the Snow Polo World Cup St. Moritz have been named: top players from Italy, Ireland, the US and Malaysia have signed up their teams for the 33rd edition of the contest for the legendary Cartier Trophy of the world’s foremost snow polo tournament. The tournament’s appeal has increased yet again among sponsors and VIP guests.

The Snow Polo World Cup 2017 will be a reunion with the stars of the previous years: from 27 to 29 January 2017, Rommy Gianni (Italy) will attempt to defend last year’s title. Following her promising debut in 2016, the US American Melissa Ganzi enters as a serious contender for the coveted Cartier Trophy, just as the Irishman Richard Fagan who returns to St. Moritz after a year’s absence. For Joevy Beh from Malaysia, it is his first appearance in St. Moritz.

Besides the four team sponsors Badrutt’s Palace Hotel, Cartier, Maserati and Perrier-Jouët, Gold Sponsor Deutsche Bank Wealth Management, official outfitter La Martina, Brioni, as well as official suppliers Confiserie Sprüngli and Heineken have also renewed their commitments — for years to come, in some instances. The demand for VIP cards has once again risen: companies as much as individuals have begun to book the tournament and Snow Polo Night with Gala packages earlier and to larger numbers than the year before.

“The response to the tournament from media, players, sponsors and VIP guests is higher year on year,” says an elated Reto Gaudenzi, the tournament’s organiser, “We have never announced the team and gold sponsors, the outfitter, and the team patrons as early as this year. We are honoured by the confidence we receive from sponsors and players alike and we take it as a big compliment to St. Moritz and the work done by the entire organisation.”

The Snow Polo World Cup St. Moritz initiated in 1985 as the world’s first polo tournament on snow. The event is organised by Evviva Polo St. Moritz Ltd in close collaboration with an experienced team of local hotels, businesses and experts, the city of St. Moritz and their Lake Infra Ltd. Evviva Polo St. Moritz and the municipality of St. Moritz extended their contract for holding the tournament until 2022, ahead of time. In parallel, the shareholders increased the company’s equity thus creating a solid financial basis, in conjunction with the successful sponsor marketing, for a sustained development of the world’s foremost snow polo tournament.
