Whoever visits a polo match knows this problem: The polo field is huge, the small, white ball, which is hit across the grass at high speed, is barely perceptible and the action seems far away. To bring polo closer to the people, Jan-Erik Franck, well-known as polo player, instructor and polo commentator in the European polo scene, had an idea: To provide huge screens at polo tournaments so that the spectators have the chance to follow the polo matches at first hand.
In 2004, he founded the company MiG International Polo to address and focus on the major gap in the promotion, development and commercialisation of polo. Jan-Erik Franck: “We are involved with bringing new sponsors, commercial filming and big screen advertising to some of the biggest events in international polo.” To implement this, the company provides giant screens, since 2009 the world’s largest mobile screens of 100 square metres, at all major polo tournaments in the UK. In addition to showing the polo matches, during the breaks between the chukkas commercials are displayed on the screens. According to requirements, the mobile screens may range from 15 to 100 square metres in size and are brought to the polo venues by large trucks. The feedback concerning the screens is absolutely positive. Jan-Erik Franck: “The spectators and the organisers of the event, everybody simply loves it! The people are enthusiastic about this!”
Latest event to see one of the giant screens was the renowned Polo in the Park tournament, which took place at the historic Hurlingham Park in London at the beginning of June. Here MiG International Polo provided a 100 square metres screen field-side so that the many thousands of spectators witnessed the exciting polo matches at close range. Next chance to see the huge screens will be the grand final of the British Open for the JaegerLeCoultre Gold Cup, which takes place at 17 July 2016 at Cowdray Park Polo Club with more than 20,000 spectators.
