124th Argentine Open HSBC Polo Championship

Presentation of the teams

Yesterday, Thursday 2 November, saw the official presentation of the 124th Argentine Open HSBC Polo Championship teams at the Plaza del Obelisco in Buenos Aires. AAP President, Eduardo Novillo Astrada, attended the event and formally presented the Captains of each team.

The tournament is set to begin tomorrow, Saturday 4 November, and will see 10 teams battle it out for the coveted Argentine Open title at the Final on Sunday 2 December. 2016 winners, La Dolfina, have had a mixed season thus far, having convincingly won the Tortugas Open 12-5 against rivals Ellerstina, but then losing out to Alegría in the Semi Finals of the Hurlingham Open. Can the final tournament in the 2017 Triple Crown revive La Dolfina’s energy, will closest rivals Ellerstina make it a second tournament win in a row or will the mighty Alegría finally get their time on the podium?
Alongside the men’s line-ups, the first Argentine Open Women’s Championship teams were also presented to the world’s press. Six teams, made up of a plethora of international players, will be taking to the sacred Palermo grounds for the inaugural ladies tournament, whose Final will be played on the same day as the men’s. Nina Clarkin and Hazel Jackson have travelled from the UK to be part of this exciting tournament and Polo Times will be following their progress through the qualifying stages.
