A national polo event is offering a lot more than horses and mallets when it comes to the Charleston area later this month.
The annual Victory Cup Polo Match will be held Oct. 21 at Hyde Park Polo Club at 6763 Davis Road in Ravenel.
The gates will open at 11 a.m. and the matches will begin at 1 p.m., followed by an after-party.
Organizers say the event will be a “true entertainment experience” that offers hi-speed polo, adult beverages, and food from local farm-to-table vendors.
Greg Ball, one of the founders of the Victory Cup, said there are 100 special passes available for those who want to join the competitors for a special dinner following the matches.
But even if attendees can’t get a pass, there will still be plenty of taste testing vendors on site.
Food vendors will include Luca Italian Kitchen, Bootlegger Coffee Truck, The Chillin Station Slather Brand Foods, Alicia’s Northside Bar and Grill, among others. And alcohol vendors will include Charleston Beverage Company, Blade And Bow Bourbon, Blue Chair Bay Rum, Whiskey Girl, and several others.
One of the main attractions will be an appearance from K. Cooper Ray, one of the cast members from Southern Charm on the Bravo channel.
Attractions for children will include face painting, a bouncy house, and a petting zoo.
This will be the first time the Victory Cup has come to the Charleston area in the event’s 14-year history. Ball said they chose Charleston because of its culture and diversity in the area.
“It has beautiful scenery and it’s a great demographic matchup for this kind of event,” he said. “We want to grow the sport and audience and Charleston is an ideal place to continue that mission.”
