Rain forces postponement of U.S. Open Polo Championship

WELLINGTON
The U.S. Open Polo Championship was postponed Sunday because of heavy rain.

Defending champion Orchard Hill was scheduled to meet Valiente in the final of the 113th U.S. Open final at International Polo Club Palm Beach.

The game is expected to be played this week, according to club officials.

The Santa Rita Abierto final and subsidiary games also were postponed at Grand Champions Polo Club. Dutta Corp, led by former 10-goaler Piki Diaz Alberdi, was scheduled to play Sonny Hill Polo in the final. The spring season-opening games are expected to be made up this week, according to club management.

Equestrian Sport Productions cancelled the remainder of the competition during ESP Spring II, held at Palm Beach International Equestrian Center, because of the inclement weather.

All classes scheduled for Sunday were cancelled. The ESP Spring Series will continue the competition beginning Friday, May 5, at Equestrian Village.
