The International Polo Club (IPC) has announced its calendar for 2018. The season is due to kick off on December 28 with the Herbie Pennell Cup and come to an end on Abril 22 with the final of the prestigious US Open, which will hold its tenth consecutive final at IPC.
The season will allow us to enjoy the skills of the best players in the world, like Argentines Adolfo Cambiaso and Facundo Pieres, and locals Nic Roldan, Julio Arellano, and Jeff Hall, among others.
IPC began its activities in 2002, thanks to John Goodman, and the club was recently bought by Wellington Equestrian Partners, whose directors are Mark and Katherine Bellissimo. The Bellissimos have already announced their intentions to continue hosting important tournaments like the US Open at the club.
As always, the season is divided in two, with three traditional 20-goal tournaments (Herbie Pennell Cup, Joe Barry Cup and Ylvisaker Cup), and with the 26-goal Triple Crown (CV Whitney, USPA Gold Cup and US Open). The Iglehart Cup and the new Carlos Gracia Cup will also be played (during May), as will the 26-goal Butler Cup.
The USPA has announced that as of 2019, the Triple Corona will be lowered to a 22-goal handicap, which means that this 2018 season will see the last of the 26-goal tournaments.
Triple Crown teams are yet to be confirmed, but nine are so far registered for the first part of the season: Coca Cola, La Indiana, Postage Stamp, SD Farms, Sonny Hill, Tonkawa, Travieso, Valiente and Villa del Lago. There will be four 10 goal players taking part: Facundo Pieres, Hilario Ulloa, Sapo Caset and Adolfo Cambiaso. We will also see the return of the legendary Adam Snow.
Everything is set for a spectacular season. Get ready! Palm Beach is less than a month away!
