Cowdray to welcome 40 goal match
The All Pro Polo League (APPL) has announced an upcoming collaboration with Cowdray Park Polo Club during their 2018 World Tour. On 23 June, the APPL will host its first 40 goal match on British soil with many famous names scheduled to take part. Thus far, Facundo Pieres, Gonzalito Pieres, Nico Pieres, Polito Pieres, Guillermo ‘Sapo’ Caset, Hilairo Ulloa, Pablo Mac Donough, Juan Martín Nero and David ‘Pelón’ Stirling have all confirmed their proposed participation.
Cowdray Park Polo Club have expressed their excitement about the proposed event, saying, “We are proud to be hosting the first ever APPL 40 goal polo match in the UK. To be the venue for such an exhibition of human and equine skill is a privilege. The APPL is trying to speed up the game and make it easier to understand, especially for those who are not familiar with the sport. One of our goals at CPPC is to take polo to a wider audience and show what a fantastic spectacle it truly is.”
Founder Javier Tanoira is famous for having founded this new form of polo, aiming to bring the sport back to a simpler format, encouraging dynamic and open play. Most notably, players are only allowed one horse per chukka, thus stopping the usual breaks in play experienced at traditional higher levels of polo. The day’s proceedings will also include a feature match starring eight young professional players from across the world, with the first match scheduled at 4pm. Entry to the event is £5 per person with free entry for Cowdray Park Polo Club members. Food and refreshments will be available from 7.30pm in the member’s enclosure with tickets available from £20.
