The Philippine national team settled for second in the 5th All-Asia Cup 2020 as it bowed to powerhouse Thailand in the Final.
Still, the silver medal is nothing but a welcome development for the Philippine National Federation of Polo Players (PNFPP).
“Up against some of the best teams in the Asian region, we proved we can be at par with them,” PNFPP founding director Cong. Mikee Romero said.
Indeed, the Filipinos’ run was bookended by losses to the Thais, but also included impressive victories versus Brunei and Indonesia.
With that, the national team composed of Romero, Anthony Garcia, Adrian Garcia, and Robert Esguerra wound up second in the six-nation tournament held at VS Sports Club and Siam Polo Park in Preng, Thailand.
Without a doubt, that is a step forward for the Philippine program looking to continue its climb up the rankings.
“Given more time to train and play in various tournaments abroad, I strongly believe we can play much better the next time,” Romero said.
