Joe Barry Memorial Cup Final This Sunday

The Joe Barry Memorial Cup Final is set to be played at International Polo Club Palm Beach on Sunday 17 January between Santa Clara and Beverly Polo. This year saw just three team entries for the 18 goal tournament, which was founded in 2005 in honour of Joe Barry whose major wins included six U.S. Open Polo Championship titles, three USPA Gold Cup titles and the 1971 Coronation Cup.In 2020, Palm Beach Equine secured the trophy and they returned in 2021 with two of their four players (Scott Swerdlin and Gringo Colombres), this year saw the defending champions joined by Beverly Polo and Santa Clara, with the three teams competing from Wednesday 6 January for their place in the Final on Sunday 17 January. On Wednesday 13 January, Santa Clara defeated defending champions, Palm Beach Equine, with a score of 14-11, securing their place in the Final against Beverly Polo.

Both teams met previously in the qualifying stages, with Santa Clara securing a narrow 11-10 win against Beverly Polo in overtime; will they be able to replicate their earlier success? All of the action can be livestreamed via Global Polo here
