Ghantoot and Desert Palm field two teams apiece in 15 goal event
Dubai: The UAE Polo Association (EPA) will host an exciting six-team tournament for the EPA Cup at the Desert Palm Polo Club this week.
Participating teams include in-form Abu Dhabi Polo Team, AES Polo Team and two teams each representing Ghantoot Polo Club and hosts Desert Palm.
“The past few weeks has been another one of success for polo in the UAE and Desert Palm has been gearing up for the New Year when it will host events like the UAE Polo Association Cup,” said Tariq Al Bawardi, of Desert Palm.
“This is a 15-goal handicap tournament which means that the event will be strong and competitive.
“We have some very good players from Argentina and the UAE in action so we’re pretty excited about the Cup.
“Obviously Abu Dhabi are a formidable opponent having won both the Emirates Open and HH The President of the UAE Polo Cup, both played at Ghantoot,” Al Bawardi added.
“But we’re looking forward to some good performances from both our teams.”
Desert Palm Polo Team feature much the same line-up that narrowly lost to Abu Dhabi in the President’s Cup.
Rashid Al Bawardi is the Team Patron which also features the teenage Argentinian brothers, Barto and Camilo Castagnola.
“It’s a good opportunity for the kids to go in and once again prove themselves,” Al Bawardi said.
The format for the event is three teams will play each other with the top team meeting the top team from the other pool in the final on February 9.
