Dubai Wolves by CAFU beat UAE Polo 12-11 in the single match for the Bentley Emirates Silver Cup played on Tuesday January 25 at Al Habtoor Polo Resort & Club, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
The tournament sees seven teams, up to 18 goals, compete. The final is set to be played on Saturday, February 5.
Alfredo Cappella opened the scores for Dubai Wolves by CAFU, but UAE Polo replied quickly with three goals that secured them a narrow lead in the first chukka. Sheikha Maitha and her boys retained their advantage until the end of the second chukker thanks to goals produced by Tommy Beresford and Lukin Monteverde.
But the Wolves made a comeback in the third chukka, in order to earn a two goal advantage, until UAE managed to tie at 8-all halfway the fourth chukka, through the young Lukin Monteverde. Already a thrilling contest, the Wolves put pressure over their contenders, until Carlos Ulloa scored a goal in the last seconds within the chukka to re take the lead.
However, UAE Polo had another ideas in mind – in a nailbiting last chukka, they bounced back and managed to tie again (11-11). But in the last throw in, and with only ten seconds remaining in regulation tie, Habtoor Al Habtoor picked the ball to seal the deal – after a hard fought match and perhaps the best of the season up-to-date, Dubai Wolves by CAFU bounced back from their debut lost and claimed a 12-11 win.
