Game of kings played in Bapsfontein.
A great game of kings was played at the East Rand Polo Club in Bapsfontein over a period of three days the past weekend.
The Kego Highveld Championship took place with 27 teams competing in five categories.
This tournament has been played for more than 15 years and is hosted by the East Rand Polo Club for the last five years.
A total of 500 horses participated in this championship.
In winners of the 12 Goal A Section was the Blue Label team.
The winners of the 4 Goal B Section was Team SMA.
The winners of the 0 Goal C Section was the Gunsmoke B team and the winners of the 6 Goal D Section was La Dolfina.
There was also a women’s section in which the Oaklands team was crowned champions.
South-Africa’s best player, Tom de Bruyn, a seven goal player, played in the winning 12 Goal A Section team, Blue Label.
“There was an all U/11 team in the D section, competing against adults.
“Junior polo is a big focus for our club and the future of the game. There was also a 12 goal women’s section, with four competitive teams.
“Women’s polo is the fastest growing polo sector in the world and is also growing in South Africa,” said club secretary, Lee-Ann Spark.
