The unveiling of the new “Polo in Aiken/Whitney Field” historical marker will be on Sunday, Oct. 29 at Whitney Field, 420 Mead Ave.
The first polo match is at 2 p.m. The ceremony will be held between the two matches that day. The unveiling of the new marker will be between about 3 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Everyone is invited.
Captain Clarence Thomas is the man who is credited with introducing polo to Aiken. Five or six of his descendants will be on hand for the ceremony.
The event will be held even if the polo match is canceled, since this is the only opportunity for special guests to attend.
In the event that the polo match is canceled, the unveiling will be at 3 p.m. at Whitney Field.
General admission is $5. Visit aikenpolo.org for additional details.
