For the second straight year, the Maui Interscholastic Varsity Girls Polo Team won the Western Girls Interscholastic Regional, held Feb. 9-11 at Empire Polo Club in Indio, Calif.
The team of Emily Coflin, Jade Hiltbrand and Leah Melzer — with coach Herman Louis-DeCoite and assistant coach Conner Jenkins — won its two games by wide margins to qualify for the USPA National Interscholastic Championship, set for March 6-10 in Houston, Texas.
Maui defeated Hawaii 14-4 before taking down Central Coast 14-3. Coflin and Melzer were named All-Stars, while Hiltbrand won the Horsemanship Award and $100.
