CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA —- The Cornell women’s polo team fell to Texas A&M 14-6 at the UVA Fall Polo Invitational on Friday.

Freshman Naomi Marlough led the Big Red in scoring with three goals in the game. Junior Lara Chung notched two and fifth year Isabelle Braeden closed out the six goals with one of her own.

“A great opening chucker and a victorious second-half, outscoring A&M by a 5-4 margin after the break shows the real potential of this team to compete at the highest level,” said Peter B. Orthwein `68 Head Coach of Polo Anthony Condo.

In the first chucker Cornell was able to keep it close with a score of 3-1, but in the second chucker the Big Red was outscored 7-0 putting them in a large deficit at the break with a score of 10-1. In chucker three, Cornell and Texas A&M each scored two goals and in the final chucker, Cornell outscored Texas A&M 3-2.

The second half showed the talent of Cornell and its ability to make adjustments during the game, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the deficit from the second chucker of action.

“I’m really excited for the women as we move forward,” said Condo. “Obviously, we have our work cut out for us, but I expect to see massive improvements in this team’s ability and team chemistry as we progress towards the Championships this coming spring.”

With the loss Cornell has dropped to 2-1 on the season and will compete on Sunday, Oct. 27 at 11:00 a.m. in the consolation game of the UVA Fall Polo Tournament.
