Men’s Polo Tunes Up For Nationals With WIn Over CNY Polo Club

ITHACA, N.Y. — The Cornell polo team had a successful final tuneup for the upcoming national championships, jumping out to a big halftime lead and topping Central New York Polo Club 17-10 on Saturday evening at Oxley Equestrian Center. The Big Red improved to 8-7 on the season with the victory.

Cornell led 11-2 after the second chukker, held off CNY during a 5-0 run in the third and cruised to its third win in its past four matches. Benito Jaramillo Samper posted nine goals, with Max Sponer adding five, including a two-pointer in the second chukker as Cornell outscored the visitors 6-1. Both Christian Finlay and Dylan Tung scored once, with the Big Red adding a pony goal.

“A great effort by our guys tonight. From start to finish we were able kept our foot on the gas and kept the pressure on Central New York,” said Tony Condo, the Peter B. Orthwein `68 Head Coach of Polo.  
“Our guys are peaking at just the right time, and I’m really looking forward to seeing what the National Tournament brings in a couple weeks. I’m excited for this team’s potential.”

Central New York Polo Club got five goals from Marc Harris, with Malachi Lyles scoring two and Big Red alumni Tate Lavitt ’14 adding three.
