USPA Gold Cup: La Fe Eastern Hay and Brookshire claimed wins on Thursday double matchdate

La Fe Eastern Hay and Brookshire were victorious in the double matchdate for the USPA Gold Cup, that was played on Thursay March 6, at the National Polo Center, set in Wellington, Florida, United States. La Fe Eastern Hay and Brookshire defeated Clearwater and Dutta Corp, respectively. The USPA Gold Cup, that sees eleven teams up to 20 goals, in participation, is the second leg of the prestigious The Gauntlet of Polo, and the tournament that preceeds the highlight of the season in Palm Beach, the US Open.

La Fe Eastern Hay and Clearwater opened fire, in a narrow contest that ended with the former victorious by a close 10-9; it’s worth to note that both teams lost in their debuts – La Fe Eastern Hay lost to Brookshire while Clearwater fell against Dutta Corp. And precisely, Brookshire and Dutta Corp played the follow-up, and the former won 9-6.

The USPA Gold Cup is due to resume through the weekend with the following schedule:

  • Saturday February 8

1pm: La Dolfina Catamount vs. Coca Cola

  • Sunday February 9

1pm: La Dolfina Tamera vs. Globalport

4pm: Park Place vs. BTA

The USPA Gold Cup was established in 1974, and has been played at many different states and clubs, such as Oak Brook Polo Club, in Illinois, Milwaukee PC, in Winconsin, Greenwich Polo Club, in Greenwich, New Bridge Polo Club, among others, and was relocated in Florida, in 1979, at Palm Beach Polo and Country Club. Some great teams took home the title more than once, including Valiente (2012, 2013, 2014, 2017, 2018), Audi (2011, 2015), Crab Orchard (2007, 2010) and Scone (2021, 2023). White Birch holds the all-time record wins with 12 titles spanning three decades.

The semifinals of the USPA Gold Cup are due on Wednesday March 19 and the final will take place on Sunday March 23.

The Gauntlet of Polo will come to an end on April 20, with the much anticipated championship match of the US Open.
