The excitement had been building for months, but on Friday, February 12th the wait was over as an unprecedented turn out of over 400 people gathered at the Museum of Polo and Hall of Fame to welcome the newest members to the Hall of Fame; Hector Galindo, William “Billy” Post II, Richard Riemenschneider, Russ Sheldon and the polo ponies Toy Moon and Califa.
After a hugely busy week, which saw six matches played to determine the eight quarter finalists, Sunday 21 February was yet another jam-packed day at the International Polo Club Palm Beach.
The 26-goal season was officially ushered in Friday evening as the seven teams entered in the 2016 C.V. Whitney Cup drew for bracket positions at the 7th Chukker at the International Polo Club Palm Beach (IPC). Suspense built as team representatives drew numbers, each hoping for the coveted No. 1 slot, which came with a bonus: a bye to the semifinals.
The sport's next generation of polo players battled it out in the Polo Training Foundation's annual International Cup Friday at Grand Champions Polo Club.
The first game of the day took place in the morning at Lechuza Caracas RD. A small change to the Los Samanes line up made little difference to the final result in their fixture against Pitirri.
