Congratulations are extended by all at Piaget to an ecstatic King Power Foxes team who are celebrating once again, after winning the 2015 Gold Cup (known as The British Open Polo Championships) at Cowdray Park Polo Club on Sunday 19th July 2015, having also won the Queen’s Cup at Guards Polo Club earlier in the English high goal polo season.
The Final of The Jaeger-LeCoultre Gold Cup at Cowdray Park Polo Club was a fight to the finish between UAE Polo and King Power Foxes with end to end galloping polo. UAE started well, winning a penalty in the first 30 seconds, which Macdonough converted with ease to open the scores.
The invention of the ancient sport of polo, called the King of Sports and the Sport of Kings, had been dated to the 6th century B.C. in Persia, but that may be changing soon.
Archaeologists have excavated three leather balls and eight long-handled polo sticks from the Yanghai Tombs in Turpan, China, dated to between 2,400 and 2,800 years old. If they are as old as 2,800 years, they predate the previous estimated date for the invention of polo.
EFG Aravali took a narrow 5-4 win over Emlor to win the Indian Empire Shield at Guards Polo Club.
The winners dominated the match and the scoreboard. Emlor made an impressive comeback in the last chukkas in an attempt to tie the game, but they were unable to defeat EFG in the end.
King Power Foxes and UAE Polo Team reach the Final of The Jaeger-LeCoultre Gold Cup
Strongly fought matches yesterday, 15 July, decided the outcome of the Semi Finals of The Jaeger-LeCoultre Gold Cup. It is not surprising that the favourites, UAE and King Power Foxes, have made it to the Final, having dominated over their opposition throughout this tournament.
Sunday 12th July kicked off the first match for the 2015 Oak Brook Polo season. Rob Wilkinson was back to announce the matches, and Tucker Rebak was the umpire for the day. “Hat Day” was the theme, with a spectacular “hat” contest held between the first and second games. The 1:00pm first match of the day was between home team Oak Brook Polo Club vs Hinsdale Magazine.
