It was no surprise to anyone when La Dolfina and Ellerstina came out on top after the qualifying rounds of the HSBC Hurlingham Open, and the Final had all the makings of a now somewhat predictable Triple Crown Final, but on Saturday 7 November the two teams truly wowed the crowds with some spectacular polo and kept the spectators gripped to the fast paced action.
Despite falling behind by three goals in the opening chukker of play, High Ground Polo (Joe Meyer, J.J. Celis, Nic Roldan and Scott Swerdlin) rode out to a 6-3 halftime lead over Dutta Corp.
The United States Polo Association (USPA), the national governing body for the sport of polo, announced today that the USPA Board of Governors has elected new officers: Joseph Meyer as Chairman; Edward R. Campbell III as President; Thomas Gose as Secretary and Samuel A. Ramirez Jr. as Treasurer.
Over the last two years the Lovelocks Polo Stud has been involved in a number of auctions and exhibitions, with one of their home bred mares – Rafiki (who had been bred, broken and subsequently played at Lovelocks) being purchased by Adolfo Cambiaso in 2013 – she is now played in the Triple Crown.
Polo ponies require two types of feed, hay and grain, in proper amounts. Too much feed results in an overweight, inactive, sick or even crippled horse. Too little feed results in a skinny horse with reduced stamina and less resistance to disease. Physical appearance is the best indicator of under or overfeeding.
The second charity polo match will take place under the patronage of Sheikh Falah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of Ghantoot Racing and Polo Club (GRPC), on Friday, October 30.
